Building Information Modeling (BIM) is all about leveraging the data in your construction project.  BIM typically results in fewer construction issues, better coordination between design disciplines, and more consistent drawing deliverables.

Here are several ways that we leverage the data in our models:

  1. Visualization.  BIM allows us to look at projects from many different angles and with various levels of detail.  This greatly improves our ability to deal with complexity in projects.
  2. Coordination.  BIM allows us to combine all of the design disciplines into one model and identify clashes before construction begins.
  3. Consistency.  BIM allows plans, sections, and details to be integrated such that changes in one area propagate through the project.  This makes it easier to create consistency throughout the drawing set.  In addition, quality control views can be created to further visualize project data to confirm that documents are consistent.
  4. Quantification.  BIM allows us to pull quantities of building materials to help us and our partners make better decisions.  We can identify components that are large contributors to project costs and focus on ways to optimize those.  We can provide assistance to contractors to check their quantities against ours and reconcile differences.

We almost exclusively use Autodesk Revit to produce our projects.  We also make use of Bluebeam Revu, Tekla BIM Sight, SDS/2, and Autodesk Navisworks for collaborating on designs.
